Library Procedures

Expectations :  1. Be respectful at all times.  2.  Use your walking feet.  3.  Use a quiet voice when speaking.  4.  Follow directions the first time.  5.  Put things back where they belong.

Books :  Students in grades K-1 will be allowed to check out 1 book.  Students in grades 2-5 will be allowed to check out 2 books.  

Open Circulation:  Open circulation times are Monday - Friday 7:45 am - 8:00 am for students in grades 1-5.

Overdue Books:  Students check out books for a two week period.  Books will be considered overdue if they are not returned on the student's library day.  If a student has any books that are overdue, he/she will not be allowed to check out books until the books have been returned to the library.

Fines:  Books that are damaged, but repairable will be charged a fine for the repair of the book or rebinding.  Repairable damages include torn pages, writing/coloring in the book, pages ripped out, etc.  Students should not loan their books to other students!  Please do not fix any damages.  I have special library materials to fix specific damages to books.  Students who owe a fine for a repair may not check out any books until the fine has been paid.

Lost/Severly Damaged Books:  Books that are damaged beyond repair are considered "lost" and must be paid for at the replacement cost of the book.  Books that are lost will need to be paid for at the replacement cost of the book.  Students who need to pay for a severely damaged book or a lost book will not be allowed to check out any other books until the fee have been paid. 
***Refunds will not be issued for found books after April 29, 2021.  However, I would love for you to donate the book back to the library.  A book plate will be placed in the front of the book with your name telling of your donation.

Welcome Back to School 2021-2022

It is hard to believe that the school year is about to start!  How was your summer?  I had a very relaxing summer.  Lots of alone time doing what I love most - sewing! Did you get a lot of reading done? I didn't spend as much time reading as I have the past summers because I had a few quilt tops to get done.  I am looking forward to getting back in the library and gathering some books to read and share with you.  We lots of new ones that I am anxious for you to read.
 
 
The Volunteer State Book Award winner was Can I Be Your Dog?  by Troy Cummings.  This book was also a school favorite.  I will be using the VSBA primary list of nominations this year for our read aloud.  There are several really good ones!!

Hi!  What have you been doing in your free time?  I have been doing all the usual stuff like cleaning, laundry, and cooking.  With my free time I have been crafting and I wanted to share with you my latest project.  You all loved the "READ" book folding project that I did so I thought you might like to see another book folding project I just completed.  This one is a gift but I will be making one for my house.  I thought this might be a fun project for you to do even if you need a little help from your parents.  I love book folding so whenever I run across free old books or ones that are fairly inexpensive, I look for ones that I think might be the right size and store them for future projects. 
 
If you are interested in doing one, all you need is an old book or one that you have permission to use, a pattern, a ruler with cm/mm markings, a pencil, and something to help crease the folds like a popsicle stick or a used gift card.   I googled DIY Book folding tutorial to learn how to do it.  I watched it a couple of times to be sure I knew what I was doing.  There are several on the web.  Once I was comfortable with it, I then looked at all the patterns that are out there.  Some are free and others you have to buy.  The "Read" one is one that had to be bought.  The "Phillips" one is a custom pattern that I paid for.  Once you find a pattern, it will tell you what size book you will need - how tall and how many pages.  I usually do my project in two sittings.  The first one I mark all of my pages according to the pattern.  The second sitting I fold all the pages.

Happy Easter!  I hope everyone was able to enjoy their day with their family.  I have enjoyed my day.  I started out by making a new recipe for breakfast which wasn't all that good.  I won't make it again.  I am now cooking dinner and updating my webpage.  
 
I started reading Bob  by Wendy Mass and Rebecca Stead before Spring Break and I didn't get too far so I am going to start it over this week.  From what I have read, the story is about a girl named Livy and a little greenish creature dressed in a chicken suit.  I believe the creature may be her imaginary friend but I can't say for sure.  I will have to let you know next Sunday if I was right.  What are you reading?  Email me or tweet me a picture of what you are reading.   I would love to see and read about what you have been reading.

Hi Everyone!  It is hard to believe that we have been out of school for a few weeks.  What have you been doing to keep yourselves busy?  I can tell you that I have been keeping myself busy with daily walks, yard work, sewing, crocheting, READING, watching TV, and cooking.  I don't enjoy all of it but I am sure I am like many of you with your chores - it has to be done.  
 
I finished Serafina and the Black Cloak.  It took me longer to finish it then I expected but I stuck with it.  I am glad I did because it really is a great book.  For those of you always asking me for a scary book, this is the book for you.  It was scary and intense.  I am sad that I didn't think to grab the other books in this series.  
 
Are you bored of doing the same thing everyday?  I just might have a couple of new activities for you to look at and try out.  Check them out under the Links tab.

Over Spring Break, new floors were installed in the library.  Here is a sneak peak of what they look like.  I think the floors look FABULOUS!!  I can't wait to get back in the library and get everything back in its place and for all of you to see the floors.
